Do you know what the word “hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia” means?

Many long, hard-to find words in the English language, such as the one quoted above are included in our Medical Dictionary. Many of them are part of our Professional Dictionary as well, including –of course—their Spanish translation and many times their definition and synonymic words—if any.

For instance “hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia” includes definitions besides its translation:

  • hipopotomonstrosesquipedaliofobia
  • miedo a las palabras largas
  • miedo irracional a las palabras largas
  • fobia a las palabras largas
  • sesquipedalofobia

As if this were not enough, it also includes definitions in English and one equivalent term (synonym):

  • sesquipedalophobia
  • fear of long words
  • irrational fear of long words
  • phobia of long words

Do you know any other dictionary which affords you translations, definitions and synonyms?

Now, we would think that hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia is the longest English Word, right? Wrong!

Take a look at the next two words (also included in our Medical Dictionary):

  • cholangiocholecystocholedochectomy
  • hepaticocholangiocholecystenterostomy

Next week we’ll give some examples of idiomatic expressions and proverbs, another one of Word Magic Dictionary’s strong points.
