I am translating a document on ecology, and have found these terms:

  • ecotasa ( 1. Impuesto para gravar las energías que producen más contaminación. )
  • ecotono (1. En ecología, zona de transición entre dos o más ecosistemas, que presenta características propias y comunes a ambos )
  • ecotonal
  • ecotoxicología (1. Ciencia que estudia los efectos tóxicos provocados por los contaminantes sobre conjuntos de seres vivos de los ecosistemas.)
  • ecotado (1. blas. [tronco o rama de árbol] Que se figura con los nudos correspondientes a los ramos menores.)

And I cannot find the translations anywhere. I just found the Spanish definitions.

Can anyone help with the translations?

Thanks!

These may be pretty difficult to translate literally, but if all else fails you can just translate the definitions to describe the word. It will still get the point across.

Ecotasa - Eco-tax (tax imposed on various highly-pollutant forms of energy production)
Ecotono - Transitional zone (a zone between two ecosystems, having some characteristics of both)
Ecotonal - an adjective of "ecotono" - having to do with transitional zones
Ecotoxicología - Eco-toxicology; Ecological toxicology
Ecotado - It's an adjective from the french "écoté" meaning "with cut limbs". It is used to describe the trunk of a tree or its limbs that is formed with the respective knots to the smaller branches. I don't really understand the usage of this word, but it seems to be used often when describing the designs on a coat of arms (google: cruz ecotada, and you'll see what I mean). I would have to see the context in which it is used in order to accurately translate it, but that's as close as I could come.

Hope that helps a little. Re-post if you need further clarification.
